Cuttings
Multiplication of plants can either take place by means of seed growing or by taking cuttings.
The advantage of cuttings is that the genus of the plant is known.
Although cuttings can be bought in many places now ,it is obvious that taking cuttings yourself is recommendable for more than one reason: -you will not get any diseases, vermin or fungi from others.

-You know the quality of your own plant  material.
-You work   with your own selections.
-You are not dependent on others concerning your planning.
The cuttings are available when you need them,   not when somebody else has them ready for you.

-Control over plant protection.
While you yourself work with organic pesticides, you may get cuttings from others that were sprayed with poison.

Rockwool makes an excellent medium  for cuttings.
Submerge the rockwool in lukewarm water ( 20 - 25°C ) with a PH value of 5.8 and an EC value of 0.8 - 1.0. Drain the cubes and put them into a propagator tray.

Use a sharp knife to cut strong 8 - 10cm long shoots from the parent plant.
Remove the lower leaves and immediately place the cuttings in a bucket of lukewarm water.
Do not use scissors when taking cuttings, because it will bruise the stem.
A surgical scalpel is the best tool for the job.
After you have made the cuttings you require, you can put them into the rockwool.
In order to stimulate root formation, use a root hormone.

This is available both as a fluid or powder.
Cutting Powder :- roll the lower 1 - 2 cm of the cutting stem through the powder.
Remove the excess powder and immediately place the cutting into the rockwool.

Make sure that the underside of the cutting is not submerged in the powder.
This may cause the channels to clog up, as a result of which the plant will be less capable of absorbing water.

Liquid Rooting Hormone :- place the bottom 1 - 2 cm of the cutting into the rooting hormone, remove any excess and place into rockwool.

It is also possible to soak the rockwool in a solution of rooting hormone. Rooting hormone can also be administered together with the nutrient water.

Stop using at the first sign of visible roots.
